Blågrå

Norways first short story hip hop album

Blågrå (blue gray) is a short story told with music. The story is about a criminal father and how life as a parent challenges his lifestyle. The character gallery consists of the main character and his girlfriend, as well as "Kompis" (Buddy) and his daughter Stella. The story takes place chronologically over a few days, and is filled with flashbacks from the characters' lives. The story is fictional, but inspired by conversations BLEKK has had with a friend in a similar situation.

The lyrics are concrete, but occasionally flows into poetry, and bears a clear mark of social realism. Although BLEKK is shaped by hip-hop's great rappers, the lyrics in Blågrå draw just as much inspiration from Norwegian contemporary writers, and use literary features to create visual images and the feeling of "being there".

The soundscape is alternative and melodic, consisting of samples and synth chords laid over a variation of drum patterns. The album has an energy curve that reflects the content of the story. With seven songs, an intro and two interludes, the album's total playing time is 37 minutes.

From October 29th, you can hear the first taste of the album, in the form of "Mellomspill Freestyle" on YLTV, Scandinavia's largest YouTube channel for urban music.

The album is released in its entirety on November 26.
